Sanna Kuusisto
”Dancing is an easy thing to do. You only need to bring your body to a space and breath. Then the dancing starts. It´s important to open new spaces and opportunities to meet and create dance together.”
Sanna Kuusisto has, for a long time and in many places, had the opportunity to dance with children and young people representing a broad spectrum of abilities. Now she works as art educator in Annantalo Arts Centre in Helsinki City. Annantalo is a multidisciplinary arts centre for children, young people and families.
Kuusisto has belonged to the Rajat’on dance community, which was one of the first Finnish dance groups consisting of disabled and non-disabled dancers. She has been a co-founder for the dance club by Uusimaa CP-association. The same tradition continues now in Annantalo as an art education group Dancehearts. It is a collaborative group with the community dance association Yhteisö tanssii.
She participated in a collaboration between Annantalo and HAM art museum to start a multidisciplinary autism friendly art education group. Now Annantalo has the art education group Värisevät varpaat as a result of that project.
She has been awarded the Children’s Culture State Award, Community Dance Artist of the Year and Dance Educator of the Year. They encourage her to strive to be worthy of the nominations.
